Water and Energy

03.07.2012

In France, shale gas exploration projects have provoked a fierce debate about the impact of energy production on water resources.

This issue is common to nuclear energy and of mega dams and adds to the questions of flaws in the democratic process as well as in respect of human rights.

How should water rights, as a common good, take precedence over the harmful extractive activities undertaken by states and energy companies?

How can we build citizens’ capacities, both in the North and South,, in making their rights respected and being able to play a role in energy governance?

On 10th March, two workshops were devoted to water and energy:

Energy production and threats to water

Water, energy and respect for human rights
